Next Generation takes responsibility at Uplegger Group

Langenhagen, July 6 2020. The Uplegger Group pushes family succession. Founded in 1884 and since then active in the German food retail, the group was able to transfer responsibilities to the 5^th generation as of July 1 2020. With this day, Kay Uplegger handed over the shares and responsibilities to his son Konstantin Uplegger. This makes the Uplegger Group one of the only 1% of German family businesses that reach the 5^th generation of family succession. Kay Uplegger took over from his father Hans-Joachim Uplegger in the 1980s. And transformed the regional cheese wholesaler to an international distributor. The company has always dealt with chilled products and has been focussing increasingly on vegan and vegetarian products in recent years.

Konstantin Uplegger has been active in management positions within the company group since 2015. After his business degree, he prepared himself for his future role through positions at Metro Group, Kaufland, Tesco, and numerous stays abroad. Konstantin Uplegger will continue to drive the positive development of the group with a focus on start-ups and innovative product concepts.

Thomas Wiek, shareholder of Uplegger Food Company GmbH, stepped down as managing director. He remains with the company as a shareholder and, like Kay Uplegger, will be in a consulting role for the coming years.

In the future, Konstantin Uplegger will share the role as managing director with Kerstin Uplegger, who will stay in her current position.
