Cheddar specialties in wax coating

Created by Uplegger Food Company GmbH

09/07/2023

The new varieties are refined with herbs and spices or have been aged for an exceptionally long time.

Langenhagen, September 07, 2023. The first-class British Cheddar, London 1856, from Wyke Farms is coming to German supermarkets (LEH) in new variations through the Uplegger Food Company GmbH. The Mature Cheddar, refined with herbs and spices, is aged for at least 10 months and enhanced with crushed black pepper or enriched with chili & jalapeño. The London 1856 Vintage Reserve Cheddar is particularly aged for up to 18 months and stands out with its heart shape, making it very attractive and eye-catching. All three innovations are wrapped in an exclusive wax coating.

The world-class Cheddar, London 1856, was developed by British cheese masters and has been produced by Wyke Farms for three generations using traditional recipes and aged in wooden crates.

Throughout the entire production process, from raw materials to delivery, Wyke Farms places special emphasis on sustainability:

  • All products are produced with 100% green energy from their own solar and biogas facilities.
  • Wyke Farms is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions throughout the process, with the goal of achieving net positive production.
  • Through the 'Net Positive Farming Pillar' program, Wyke Farms promotes sustainable dairy farming on their suppliers' farms.
  • Electric cars and delivery vans powered by solar energy are used for operations and local store deliveries.
  • To conserve the precious resource of water, rainwater is collected, and the water used in the dairy is directed to their own water treatment facility.
  • Wyke Farms is dedicated to nature and animal conservation, such as planting trees, creating hedges, and installing bird boxes and insect hotels.
  • Instead of artificial fertilizers, the byproducts from anaerobic digestion are used as valuable and nutrient-rich fertilizers in agriculture.

The three new Cheddar specialties will be available through the Uplegger Food Company starting in autumn 2023. The varieties, London 1856 Black Pepper Cheddar, Hot & Spicy Cheddar, and Vintage Reserve Cheddar, are packaged in 100g portions, 10 pieces per carton, with a RRP starting from €3.49 each.
