Plant-based seafood from oyster mushrooms.
Langenhagen, March 8th, 2023. Hard to believe, but the new plant-based sea food salads from BonMush in the Uplegger Food Company GmbH portfolio are based on oyster mushrooms instead of seafood. Ready-to-eat they can be enjoyed quickly and easily. Thanks to the sustainable and local raw material oyster mushroom, they save the resources water & land. And because they are rich in fibre & proteins, they can contribute to a balanced diet.
Founder of these innovative products is Caroline. She continues the tradition of her parents-in-law's business, which began 130 years ago with the production of the finest meat products and has since grown in the fifth generation from a traditional butcher's shop into a vegetarian and vegan-oriented company. Today, oyster mushrooms grow in the former pigsties in Flanders, Belgium.
For Caroline, the driving force behind the innovative products is the environmental impact: "The damage of our natural environment is taking place at an unprecedented rate. Mass consumption of meat and fish is one of the biggest reasons for this. BonMush counters this by using oyster mushroom as a base, which requires almost no water or land." With BonMush she wants to make it easier for people to eat a vegetarian or vegan diet. She doesn't see her products as plant-based meat or fish substitutes, but simply as a delicious and environmentally friendly product for everyone.
The plant-based BonMush Seafood Salads are distributed via the Uplegger Food Company for the German, Austrian and Swiss markets. They are available in three varieties: Vegan Sea Salad, Vegan Sea Cocktail Salad, Vegan Tune-in Salad, each pack with 135 g, 6 packs per outer case.
