New cheddar from Somerset
Langenhagen, January 1st, 2022. ‘London 1856’, a premium, British cheddar, crafted by third generation British cheesemakers, The Clothier family, is now coming to Germany and Austria via Uplegger Food Company. London 1856’ is a world class cheddar. Crafted with expertise by British master cheese-makers and designed to cross cultures and be enjoyed socially with friends and family. London 1856 comes with an interesting history; the idea for the cheese was conceived over 160 years ago in 1856 when the London trainline first reached the sleepy Somerset town Castle Cary. Farmer Clothier decided to make a cheddar for the sophisticated people of London and graded his special reserved cheddar that had been aged for 300 days. The farmers called it ‘London 1856’.
'London 1856' starts January 2022 via Uplegger Food Company e.g., with listings at Edeka. The varieties Cheddar Mild and Cheddar Mature are available as slices each in a packaging with 120 g (10 pc/box). As a block the varieties Mature, Extra Mature, and Vintage are available each in a packaging with 200 g (12 pc/box). There is also a Big Block Cheddar Mature for Food Service with 2.5 kg (2 pc/box).
